Windows 10 Cumulative Update KB4556799 BSOD Gets a Fix on Windows Update - silversurfer - 26 May 20

Quote:The experience with the latest Windows 10 cumulative updates has been far from flawless, and as some discovered lately, they could even hit BSODs after installing a patch.

More specifically, Windows 10 cumulative update KB4556799 is believed to come with a conflict issue with Windows Defender, which eventually leads to a fatal crash, or Blue Screen of Death.

Microsoft itself confirmed it was investigating some reports of bugs hitting this cumulative update, but the company didn’t provide any specifics.

“We are actively engaged with customers who are reporting issues. To date, we have not seen widespread issues reflected in telemetry, support data, or customer feedback channels. We continuously investigate all customer feedback and are closely monitoring this situation,” the company said.

And now it looks like a fix might be available on Windows Update, albeit surprisingly, this one doesn’t come from Microsoft, but from HP.

Woody Leonhard of AskWoody revealed on Twitter that a new update to “HP Software Component 4.1.4.3079” was released via Windows Update, and it’s believed this is supposed to resolve the aforementioned issues caused by the said cumulative update.

This could be an indication that the issue only happened on HP devices, albeit for now, a confirmation from Microsoft is still missing.
