he RX 7900 series cards perform just as expected and akin to what we know from RDNA2 series. This means better 3DMark FireStrike performance, which is a DirectX11 benchmark and a bit worse in 3DMark TimeSpy using modern DX12 API. This is based on synthetic data collected from and confirmed it with multiple reviewers.

In TimeSpy, the RX 7900 XTX is within the sight of RTX 4080 at 4K Extreme preset (~2% behind), while the 4080 is about 10% faster at 1440p resolution. Interestingly, there is almost no difference between 7900 XTX and XT at 4K, but the gap widens with 1440p preset to 4%.

In 3DMark FireStrike, the RX 7900 XTX managed to outperform RTX 4080 at both the 4K and 1440p resolutions (9-10% difference), while the XT model is just about 1-2% slower.The RX 7900 series find themselves competitive against RTX 4080 in all tests. The flagship XTX model also offers up to 29% better performance than RX 6950XT that launched at a higher price ($1099) just a half a year ago. Unfortunately, RX 7900 series are unable to compete with RTX 4090 in those tests.

However, neither TimeSpy nor FireStrike use modern graphics technologies like raytracing, so there is definitely not enough information to draw final conclusions. That said, we encourage everyone to wait just 3 more days for comprehensive coverage from independent media.
