Alternative YouTube Music apps - ray - 12 January 23

YouTube Music is a great app to listen to music, but it has ads.

I frequently like to check F-Droid to see if there are any new open-source apps available and I came across a few alternative YouTube Music apps that you might like.
  • InnerTube - I think most users would like this one. You have the option to download tracks to listen offline, so this would work well for those with a restricted data plan. It also has proxy support if you need it. This would help if you're in a region that doesn't support YouTube Music for example.
  • ViMusic - This one has a funky layout. Some do not like the vertical tabs layout of ViMusic, but I kind of dig it. Unfortunately, I think I read somewhere that the author has stopped development on this app and is creating a brand-new app to supplant this one. Also this one doesn't offer the ability to download tracks, so it's streaming-only, but does cache songs to avoid restreaming.
You can't go wrong with either one of these two apps. Both support Android Auto if you use that and bonus is you do not need to login to YouTube to start listening to your favorite artists!
