AMD enables Fluid Motion Frames support for Radeon RX 6000 series - harlan4096 - 07 October 23

AMD has released a new preview driver for Fluid Motion Frames technology.
This driver, which builds upon last week’s release, introduces support for the Radeon RX 6000 series. This technology support has now been extended to both desktop and mobile graphics series based on this architecture. Worth noting that while the driver may install on other hardware, as was the case with the previous release, it might lack full AFMF (Fluid Motion Frames) support.
AFMF functions by incorporating Frame Generation technology into games that do not fully support FSR3 technology. Game developers do not need to provide specific support for AFMF, as it operates independently at the driver level. What this also means is that AFMF won’t include the upscaling component from FSR3; it will solely offer the frame generation feature.

While the support now extends to both the RX 6000 and RX 7000 series, AFMF support for other architectures has not been confirmed yet. Additionally, this technology will never function with GeForce and Intel architectures because it relies on AMD drivers. However, if it becomes widely popular, competing companies may feel the need to offer alternatives.
The new driver, labeled as 23.30, is now available for download from the AMD website (link below). AMD is currently focusing on enhancing smoothness and image quality. There is no mention of new games being added, so the list still remains limited to the following titles:
AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) Games
A Plague Tale – RequiemBorderlands 3 Control Dead Space Deep Rock Galactic Dying Light 2 Far Cry® 6 Ghostwire: Tokyo Hitman 3 Hogwarts Legacy Horizon Zero Dawn™ Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition Red Dead Redemption 2 Resident Evil 3 Resident Evil 4 Shadow Of The Tomb Raider Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™ Starfield The Last of Us™ Part 1 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
As mentioned earlier, you can enable AFMF through HYPR-RX technology as a global setting or on an individual basis for each game via Adrenalin software profiles. The latter option certainly provides more flexibility and allows for experimentation, which may be necessary since this is a preview driver and not a final release.
