  • AI Smart Backup

    Within "File Backup", there is a special backup schedule called "Smart Backup". This schedule will run every half hour, provided changes have been made to the files being backed up. Smart Backup is an exclusive backup option of EaseUS Todo Backup. It is different from 'Scheduled Backup'. Smart Backup is mainly designed for file/folder backup. Every 7-day is a complete backup circle (Smart Backup cycle) and the 1st day is the date when you create the backup task. The first image of each circle is always full. For the remaining (other) 6 days of the circle (Smart Backup cycle), each day starts with a differential image. And the rest image files on every valid day will be incremental backups. Reliable Hard Disk Drive Cloning Tool

EaseUS Todo Backup also allows users to clone a hard disk, in order to replace the old one or transfer to another one. Cloning a hard drive makes an exact copy of any disk or partition. It can be used for backups, PC upgrades or disk duplication purposes. When the computer fails, the cloned drive can be used to replace the old one and resume system operation immediately.

System Clone
Whenever there is a need to Migrate/Move OS to SSD, upgrade to a larger disk, Todo Backup can clone OS and all the boot-related partitions or files to make sure it's bootable. "System Clone" is duplicating an operating system to another hard drive, USB, or other storage media. Difference between a "backup" and "clone"


The primary purpose of backup is to create duplicate copies of essential data to enable data recovery in case of an unexpected computer disaster. Backups serves as an effective remedy for system failure or data loss. 

Advantages of "backup":
 
  1. Backups can be scheduled (e.g., regular automatic backups that requires no further user interaction).


  2. Changes can be appended in a backup, either, (i) incrementally or (ii) differentially (i.e. after a full backup, subsequent backups will take less time and occupy less space than the first one).


  3. Backups allows the user to keep several versions of the backed-up data and it can be restored to one of the previous versions (e.g., you can keep backups from one, two and three weeks ago on the same disk and you can recover the backup from the moment that you need).


  4. Backups can be "mounted" allowing for items to be "searched" through (e.g., if you want to quickly find, view and copy a file from it).

Clone is used to build a new identical hard drive (or create/migrate to a new system). All contents on destination hard drive will be replaced with all items from source hard drive. 

Clone is a one-time operation designed to duplicate one disk to a different one for the purpose of migrating to a larger hard drive on the same machine or to a different system. So, as compared to backup, clone is more suitable for replacing system drive with a new HDD or a more efficient SSD or transferring to a newer system.

  • Clone

    "Cloning" is the process of creating an exact copy or duplicate of your data. It is often confused with backup but it is different from having a backup of your data. Cloning is the process of making a digital copy of your entire data. 

    Disk cloning is the process of copying the entire disk. All the data present on a hard drive including Windows, applications, files, documents, etc., will be duplicated / transferred to another hard drive or SSD. If an upgrade is desired, the user should use disk cloning.

    Disk cloning allows the user to migrate all the data from a current HDD to a new SSD. If the user prefers to use the old operating system on the new drive, the better option is to select "system clone".

  • System Clone

    "System cloning" is related to the system partition and system-related partitions. All the data that is essential for the system will be transferred in the system cloning. System cloning is useful when users want to create a portable Windows USB. It would create exactly the same copy of the user's system drive. With the same files and disk layout, he (the user) can easily / efficiently run his own system on any other computer.

  • System Transfer

    "System Transfer" is a powerful feature that allows users to transfer operating system to another computer, even when the hardware configuration in both computers is totally different. The "system backup" needed for "System Transfer" needs to be stored on an external hard drive, so that it can be easily transferred to the "target" computer.   • Check Image

    Check image can verify the validity of a created image file. If errors are seen during checking process (signifying corruption or damage) then the image file might be damaged and cannot be used for recovery. So, it is a must to check the image regularly.

    EaseUS Todo Backup allows users to create an emergency USB disk or CD/DVD. This is the most indispensable tool to be used when windows system fails to boot. Cloud is not supported in WinPE environment.

  • Enable Pre-OS

    "Pre-OS" can be considered as an alternative of WinPE bootable disk. It can also help the user to recover the system when unexpected failure occurs. Once the Pre-OS enabled, user will get a EaseUS boot menu in the computer's boot menu. Pre-OS is also considered as a simple OS environment, under which the user can use Todo Backup without system login or a ready bootable disk created. It is especially useful when the operating system fails to boot.

  • Mount/Unmount

    EaseUS Todo Backup provides a "mount" function to browse/confirm the files and folders in a disk/partition image or system image. When an image is "mounted",  users can directly copy needed files from said mounted drive without restoring entire image. Mount function is also a good way to check whether the created image is valid or not. (Note: Disk/Volume backup and System backup image are only supported by this function)

    To fully access mounted virtual partitions, it is required that the image to be mounted is "created" and "mounted" in the same Windows account. Mounted drives can be "unmounted" in the same way it is mounted. All mounted drives automatically disappear after computer restarts.

  • Logs

    All the backup operations and statuses are recorded in Logs. Failed operations are marked in red. Log files can exported in .TXT or, .XLS format.

  • Refresh Disk

    "Refresh Disk" is used to load the latest status of local hard drives after a disk is updated or newly added a new disk. It is also necessary to use this option after adding driver file of a disk in WinPE.


  • Security Zone

    EaseUS Todo Backup creates a secure and encrypted partition, which is called "Security Zone". Once it is created, the malware / ransomware cannot access its contents. Users can still keep backup files and restore data from them even if the user's computer is hacked! "Security Zone" is a secret partition used to safely store all backup image files. The security partition cannot be explored or modified on Windows once created, and it is able to protect the user's backup files from being destroyed either by malware or faulty operation.

OBSERVATIONS


1. Partition backup and recovery


Partition backup size and total back-up time data as compared to the alternatives is not that significant apart from the backup size of Acronis True Image 2017 NG which was the smallest at 3659126 KB and total backup time consumed (including verification) at 0:01:32 min. Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3 (at 2709013 KB) and EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 (at 2734020 KB) backup size are at par with just a difference of 25007 KB.  

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024's back-up time (including verification) clocked at 0:02:13 min (slowest) while Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3 is at 0:01:56 min. See images below.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 "Partition" recovery time is fastest clocking at 0:01:48 min with Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3 coming in second at 0:02:20 min while Acronis True Image 2017 NG coming in the slowest at >3 minutes (0:03:55 min). See above images. 



2. File/Folder backup and recovery


File/Folder backup size and total back-up time data as compared to the alternatives is not that significant too, apart from the backup size of Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3. The folder backup size is the lowest at 1008173 KB as compared to Acronis True Image 107 NG's 2158028 KB and EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024's 2154768 KB. 

For the backup time (including verification of image), Acronis True Image 2017 NG consumed just 0:01:02 min with EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 clocking at 0:01:13 min. Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3 though the backup size is smaller it clocked at 0:02:18 min. "Check Image" of EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 has to be manually done after the user has completed the back. There is no setting that I see where I can set it to automatically "Check Image" after backing up. The "Check Image" time consumed was 0:00:13 seconds. See images below.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 "File/Folder" recovery time as compared to the alternatives is at par clocking second (at 0:01:16 min) from the 3 backup software with Aomei Backupper Pro 7.3.3 as the fastest at 0:01:11 min and Acronis True Image 2017 NG at 0:01:42 min. See above images. 


Let it be noted that all alternatives, together with EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024, recovered all folders and partitions completely and without errors.

FINAL WORD



EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024's "new" interface is great and it is modern enough and eye catchy, easy-to-understand for a newbie. The heart of this backup program is always the "back-up and recovery" files, folders and drives. The user will get a whole range of backup and recovery options that will suit his preference whether it be for a whole disk or partition, apps like Outlook and Chrome, selected files/folders to or from a local drive, EaseUS Cloud, Network or it's own Security Zone. Scheduling backups, pre- and post-backup commands, file filtering, Email notifications, are also offered.


In the simple backup and recovery test done, EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024's performance is at par with most backup programs. Backup and recovery time and size wasn't that significant from the test results with EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 showing both speed and size advantage. One small thing I want Todo Backup Home to have is to automate the "Check Image". Have a setting that can "automatically" check the integrity of the image file as soon as the back-up creation has been done. Saves a few clicks for the user. 


The creation of "Emergency Disk" is good and not that problematic as that of EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard Pro. This is a "critical feature" and EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 allows the user 3 options, (i) Create an ISO file, (ii) Create a bootable USB, and (iii) Create a bootable CD/DVD. I opted for option 1 -- (i) Create an ISO file and the created ISO file booted without any issues in my VirtualBox.

Todo Backup Home tools specifically the, Secure Zone and Backup Protection is greatly commendable as this assures that the user's backup files cannot be corrupted and are safe from any tampering or any malware, ransomware per se. 


EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 is "rock-solid" and as I was using it, I was reminded of Acronis True Image 2014 but much faster and better in terms of the easy-to-use interface, no clutter and searching for tools. Designed for home users, EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024 disk imaging application contains a rich set of features dedicated to guarantee data security with key features of incremental and differential imaging, scan scheduling, drive cloning, and system snapshots solidifying it's performance. 


I have used some of the most popular backup and imaging applications on the market (especially with Acronis and Macrium Reflect) and I have to say, I was surprised with EaseUS Todo Backup Home 2024! I wasn't expecting much and was thinking that I will encounter something off that will wither my interest. The performance and features (though not long testing it) plus the "ease-of-use" factor with the improved interface is one of the best I have seen in a long while! For those who have had bad experiences with previous versions of EaseUS Todo Backup Home, I encourage them to try the 2024 version! On my preference, I like it and is definitely recommended!
