Intel has issued the first statement on user reported Core i9 processors stability issues. The company has put the blame on motherboard vendors who do not follow Intel specs.

There would hardly be any difference in motherboard performance if it weren’t for certain features that allow users to disable or adjust power, voltages, and frequency settings. It’s clear that these companies tend to offer more powerful features out of the box, which also looks good in reviews when each board is compared to the others. The problem arises when motherboards enable these features automatically.

Intel has finally issued a statement blaming motherboard vendors for allowing Intel CPUs to operate outside recommended specs. The company is still validating the root cause of Intel CPUs running outside recommended specs, but Intel confirms that the majority of reports were with unlocked motherboards.

Officially, there will be a second statement once the problem is fully diagnosed, but the recommendations have already been published. This is in case motherboard vendors are too slow to offer the “Intel Baseline Profiles” that should restore official Intel specs for affected CPUs. These options are listed in the statement below.
