As part of our mission to provide consumers with reliable insights into antivirus software performance, AV-Comparatives has published the latest factsheet for the ongoing Real-World Protection Test. This July/August 2024 update provides a snapshot of how various security solutions are performing against real-world threats, with the detailed final report scheduled for release in November.

Comprehensive and Realistic Testing

AV-Comparatives is globally recognized for its rigorous and transparent testing processes. Our Real-World Protection Test is designed to evaluate antivirus software in conditions that closely resemble everyday user experiences. This testing methodology ensures that all key protection features of each product are thoroughly examined, providing a clear picture of their effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

Overview of Tested Products and Procedures

In this round of testing, sixteen prominent antivirus products were evaluated, including Avast Free Antivirus, AVG Internet Security, Avira Free Security, Bitdefender Total Security, ESET HOME Security Essential, F-Secure Internet Security, G Data Total Security, Kaspersky Standard, McAfee Total Protection, Microsoft Defender Antivirus, Norton Antivirus Plus, Panda Free Antivirus, Quick Heal Internet Security, TotalAV Antivirus Pro, Total Defense Essential Antivirus, and Trend Micro Internet Security. A total of 237 malicious URLs were used in the test to simulate a wide range of potential cyber threats. The interim results also feature a false-positive test, providing a holistic view of each product’s performance.
