What is SpyShelter?
SpyShelter is an antispyware application for Windows PCs designed to provide real-time protection against various forms of malware, spyware, and cyber threats. SpyShelter also has powerful application control features that allow the user to control what their apps can do, and when. For example, SpyShelter can prevent certain suspicious apps from launching at all, or allow them to launch, yet prevent certain dangerous behaviors (like driver installs, or Windows System changes).

Is SpyShelter an antivirus?
No, SpyShelter is an antispyware-focused application for Windows PCs designed to provide real-time protection against various forms of spyware, particularly those that attempt to access sensitive data. The user should always use an antivirus along with SpyShelter. Windows Security (formerly known as Windows Defender is a free antivirus anyone on Windows can use)

SpyShelter's 'Application Control software' for Windows
Windows processes behaving 'mysteriously' is one reason why SpyShelter was created. This is to safeguard people and let them see what 'these' applications are doing on their PCs with the goal of preventing them from doing things they shouldn’t.

What is Application Control Software?
Application control software for Windows is the best way to lock down and control what your apps are allowed, and not allowed to do with 'allowlists' and 'blocklists'. Application Control can keep unknown applications from launching at all, and Application Behavior Control can control what your applications are allowed to do. For example, with Application Behavior Control you can allow an application to launch, but not allow it to access your Windows registry. Application control software for Windows is perfect for securing your system by restricting unknown applications from launching, and getting full control over allowed behaviors.

With SpyShelter’s Application Control features you can control what PC apps start and when, and you can even make rules about what they can and can’t do. SpyShelter can control Windows application behaviors from launch and as well as restrict untoward behavior whilst allowing 'safe' behavior. One part of the Windows system that can cause problems for your PC is the Windows Registry. The user can avoid any untoward situation by turning on our “Protection > Registry Integrity Control” feature. SpyShelter can 'allow' or 'deny' the following application behaviors with Windows:

  • Windows Registry Access (as mentioned via 'Registry Integrity Control')
  • New Windows Services
  • New Windows Drivers
  • Injections into other executables
  • Access to certain files and folders

1. ACTIVITY TAB

The Activity tabs shows a graph of how many executables are running on the user's PC at any time, and this shows that SpyShelter is actively checking those executables for known threats. The "+1 icons" means that this is a 'new' executable that SpyShelter has never seen before on your PC. Along the course of usage, SpyShelter will find many new executables and these '+1 alerts' may be noisy at first but will soon die down as SpyShelter monitors all the user's executables.

At the top right of the activity graph, you’ll see a small "Terminal" icon. Click this icon to see SpyShelter’s 'Terminal' feature. This feature shows the user to see real-time activity of all the executables in a computer. Under the graph and "Terminal" is a search box. Here you can type in a partial name, or full name of any executable and it will start to appear in the results. To the right of the search box is the “view” pull-down menu. Choose this menu to change to a 'Publisher' view if you prefer to have your activate processes sorted by desired/selected 'Publisher'. This view will put any unsigned processes at the top of the list, to bring them to your attention.

In the app list, the apps are divided into Apps (#1) or Background Processes (#2) categories. “Apps" refer to software programs with user interfaces for tasks like web browsing or document editing, whereas "background processes" operate behind the scenes, managing system resources and supporting the operating system. In the Activity window you will see a "Safe" or "Threat" designation (#3). This 'designation' signifies that SpyShelter has scanned the executable for known threats and has found that it is most likely "Safe" or "Threat". A "Threat" designation warrants an automatically quarantine and SpyShelter will disable it.

For more info see HERE

2. RULES TAB

The "Rules" tab shows all of SpyShelter’s Windows Application Control Rules. By default, all Microsoft specific publishers are marked as 'Trusted' by default (with a seal icon showing a check mark in the middle). It’s important to do so or your PC may not function properly. For example, if you did not trust a specific Microsoft driver that controls your PC monitor and it was terminated by a rule, then your screen could turn black and not function until you re-enable the driver.

The user can also quarantine specific apps and trust specific apps using this same method. If you (the user) wanted to trust only one specific app under one publisher, he can do so by clicking its "three-dot menu" and click "Trust Application". Any publisher or app can be found via the "top search" bar. The user can also "filter" or "sort" by: App Launch, Registry Key Modification, Camera Access, Mic Access, and File Access under the Rules menu directly under the search bar, on the left side.

3. PROTECTION TAB

Below are SpyShelter's protection features:

Paranoid Mode
This is the most 'strict' security mode. In this mode all security settings are set to "high" and all applications that aren’t trusted will be controlled by SpyShelter so the user can effectively discern to 'Allow' or 'Deny' detected behaviors. Also in this mode, SpyShelter will automatically quarantine all known executable threat after the user has specifically "Allows or Denies" any untrusted app changes. For example, if you install a new software then before the installer can start SpyShelter will ask you if you (the user) IF he really wants to allow this software to launch.

Suspicious Mode
In this mode, SpyShelter only stops and shows or asks (the user) to "Allow" or "Deny" a detected unsinged executable that have no publisher. For example, if you (the user) download a software and launch the installer, SpyShelter will allow it to run as long as it’s signed by a publisher. The software will also be allowed to take any action, like Registry changes, as long as the executables is "signed".

Easy Mode
This is the default simple mode that any user can use to help protect their PC from spyware. Just turn on this mode and that’s it. SpyShelter will look for known executable threats, then quarantine them. There is nothing else for the user to do. This mode is tailored/recommended for the basic PC user.

Custom Mode
If the user "changes" any pre-defined settings in either 'Paranoid" or "Suspicious" protection modes then SpyShelter will automatically change the mode to 'Custom'.

'Do Not Disturb' Mode
In this mode, SpyShelter temporarily changes to "Easy Mode" mode (with time duration) to avoid security notifications during presentations, games, movies and the like. The time duration for 'Do Not Disturb' mode is defaulted at 3 hours but can be adjusted in 'Configuration > Settings'.

All Off
All SpyShelter protection features are all "off" except the 'Camera and Mic Protection' (which can also be turned-off manually). This is useful when the user has PC issues and wants to rule our SpyShelter as the cause of the issue/s.

4. EVENTS  TAB

The "Events" tab helps the user keep track of all the activities taking place with all the executables. As with all tabs (with the exception of 'Protection' tab), the user can use top 'Search bar' as filter to search for specific apps or publishers. Just below the search bar, further filtering can be done to only show Processes that were 'Blocked', 'New Binaries', 'New Hashes', 'Camera access', 'Microphone access', when 'Drivers' and 'Services' were 'Installed' or 'Removed', and also make all 'Launch/Exits' visible.

Click the 'Apps' or 'Publishers' menus and select only the 'Apps' or 'Publishers' you (the user) want to see events pertaining to desired 'Apps' or 'Publishers.
