The new series appear in notebook press release.
AMD is introducing a new lineup of high-end gaming CPUs under the Ryzen HX family. Yesterday, AMD announced the Fire Range series based on the Zen 5 architecture. However, it turns out the company is also working on a refresh of its previous-generation series.
Codenamed “Dragon Range Refresh,” the Zen 4-based 8040HX series features CPUs with up to 16 cores and 32 threads. Overall, the specifications appear nearly identical to the predecessor (7040HX), with one key exception.
The flagship Ryzen 9 8945HX is a 16-core CPU with 64MB of cache and a boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz. These specifications are identical to the 7945HX variant. The main difference is that AMD is not reintroducing an HX3D model with 3D V-Cache in this refresh. This feature remains exclusive to the original 7000 series and the newly announced Fire Range series. Notably, AMD launched the 9955HX3D yesterday.

One of the first laptops with Ryzen 9 8945HX is MSI Vector A18 as announced yesterday.
