The popular open-source video encoding and decoding library FFmpeg will now support AMD FSR upscaling. Before anyone gets too excited, note that this is FSR 1, the basic spatial upscaler, not the newer temporal-based solution. Although video is a perfect use case where motion vectors can be prepared in advance, AMD is currently not offering FSR2+ support through its framework.

AMD provides its Advanced Media Framework (AMF) SDK, which is already in use by FFmpeg. The software will now support new filters, including super-resolution filters. As noted by Phoronix, AMD had already been distributing a downstream implementation of AMF SDK for FFmpeg, but it is now being integrated upstream, making adoption more widespread.
