When AMD accidentally released the source code of FSR4, it included an option that modders quickly picked up and implemented where AMD had left it. This concerns the INT8 (8-bit integer) version of FSR4, which was mistakenly published. AMD rushed to remove the repository containing these files, but they were available for at least a few days, all under the MIT license. Some argue that since the release was accidental, the license might not apply, but the files were left online for days, so go figure.

The original leak did not include everything, only uncompiled weights that were useless to gamers. However, members of the Reddit community have since compiled a DLL file, making it possible to use FSR4 by simply dropping in and replacing files.

According to Reddit posts, this modification enables FSR4 through INT8 instructions, delivering “substantially superior” quality compared to FSR 3.1. The trade-off is higher processing time: 1.9 ms compared to 0.6 ms, as measured on a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti.
