Quote:Google announced the release of a the new Google app for Microsoft's Windows operating system. The new experimental search app streamlines web searches and file searches.

Windows users who install the new app on their device may use the keyboard shortcut Alt-Space to bring up the search interface. The search finds content on the Internet as well as local files, installed programs, and Google Drive files according to Google's announcement.

Another key feature of the app is the integration of Google Lens. It can be used to interact with any text or visual element that is displayed on the screen. Google says that users may use the feature to translate images or text, get "help with homework problems" and more.

Google baked AI into the Windows app as well. AI Mode enables "deeper AI-powered responses" and supports asking follow-up questions. The mode may provide users with additional helpful links, according to the announcement.

The new app has been launched as part of Google's Search Labs experience and it is limited to users from the United States currently who have set their language to English.  Users who match the requirements can opt-in on the official Google Search Labs website.
