Windows defender or paid antivirus? - angustaver - 08 December 19 I recently installed a paid antivirus, after many hours dealing with the impossibility of copying an autorun.inf (harmless) file to an external disk I discovered that the antivirus was to blame, uninstalled the antivirus, end of the problem. Each paid antivirus has its different problems, others work badly with Adguard etc ... my question is: from the point of view of security is a payment antivirus really necessary? Windows defender currently seems to have a high level of protection by matching its results with the best, according to independent laboratories that test antivirus. It is integrated into the system and although it does not have certain superfluous characteristics that others do have, it seems to be a good option from the exclusive point of view of security. What do you think? If I don't need cleaners, updaters, parental controls etc. Is Windows defender the best option? RE: Windows defender or paid antivirus? - harlan4096 - 08 December 19 Welcome to GFYI ![]() If You are user with safe security habits in general, then WD of course is a great option, if You already use AdGuard desktop, then probably You don't need more... Here You are a great tool from @AndyFul to easily make some interesting and strong tweaks/harden Your WD: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/10/29/configuredefender-windows-defender-configuration-tool/ If You are a more advanced user then He also has Hard_Configurator to harden Your system: https://hard-configurator.com/faq.html RE: Windows defender or paid antivirus? - angustaver - 13 December 19 Thank you for your response, I believe that windows defending is currently enough and you have confirmed it to me. RE: Windows defender or paid antivirus? - dinosaur07 - 13 December 19 I would always prefer any paid AV in the place of WD. Never keep all the eggs in the same bag. I suggest using a light AV like Eset or Emsisoft for instance. Both are way better than WD. I don't trust fully Windows.
RE: Windows defender or paid antivirus? - iAwake - 06 January 20 I believe Windows Defender, if configured correctly, is enough now adays. Unfortunately, the performance is an issue when it comes to WD, in my case it is much heavier than many other suites. If one does not want to pay, I believe WD is the best option; it is free and it is already integrated in Windows, so less compatibility issues than third-party solutions. RE: Windows defender or paid antivirus? - Starship - 03 February 20 Windows Defender, if configured correctly, is enough now adays. But with paid AV, you get many premium features and other things which otherwise you don't get to see in WD. So, it is what you want ! |
