iPhone 12 Pro Max spotted in CAD renders, confirming flat edges and smaller bezel

Information
Quote:There have already been a few rumors regarding Apple's 2020 iPhones, as there are each year, but today, CAD renders of what is believed to be the iPhone 12 Pro Max have leaked online. The CAD models were obtained by leaker Max Weinbach, and in partnership with Everything Apple Pro, turned into higher-quality renders and a real-life 3D-printed model. According to the sources, the CAD model was only 70% finished, so some of the details were filled in with information from current rumors. In general, the dimensions should be correct, but some of the details, such as the camera design, may be off.

With that in mind, the renders do confirm some of the previously-rumored aspects of the design, starting with the flat edges around the phone, as well as flatter glass panels with a less noticeable curvature towards the edges. There's also a smaller notch, but this is one of the details filled in with information from other leaks, since the original CAD model featured a larger notch, but that has since been said to be reduced. The bezels are also smaller all around the display, coming down to 1.55mm all around, as opposed to 2.52mm in the previous models.

The render also depicts the iPhone 12 Pro Max as being thinner than its predecessor, at around 7.4mm, but it's also taller and wider. The camera bump is also bigger than that of the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but at least the cameras themselves won't be protruding from the camera bump as much. However, as mentioned above, the size and spacing of each of the cameras may be off, but the layout is believed to be correct. In line with past rumors, a fourth sensor, expected to be a LiDAR senor, is being added, and while the renders used here show it looking different from the other cameras, it's believed it will actually have a similar ring around it.

Other aspects of the design are also apparently changing. Apple is making the antenna bands on the edges of the phone wider, which is supposed to help with 5G support, and the SIM card tray is being moved next to the volume rocker rather than the power button. Where the SIM slot used to be, the render features what appears to be a Smart Connector, similar to what's on Apple's iPad Pro, where it's used as a connector for accessories like keyboards. The connector seems slightly smaller, but otherwise looks identical.
