Quote:AMD FSR4 as an easy FSR3.1 update?

In response to our post on X/Twitter on FSR3.1 update for the Last of Us Part 1, Kepler_L2, known for accurate AMD leaks, has responded that AMD should offer an easily drop-in replacement with the FSR4 library for FSR3.1 games. In other words, this would mean that all games already supporting FSR3.1 could be upgraded to FSR4 with little to no effort required from developers or gamers. Perhaps even on a driver level.
These rumors arise as AMD struggles to share any details about the FSR4 update. However, the company has already showcased a side-by-side demo of FSR3.1 and FSR4 at CES, highlighting visible improvements in quality over the previous generation. The new version is reportedly AI-driven, and based on Kepler’s information, the current version of the DLL is only supported by RDNA4 architecture.

Hardware support aside, we can now speculate on the list of games that may support FSR4 at launch. Assuming AMD implements a driver-level DLL switch without requiring changes from game developers, this would mean that over 40 games supporting FSR3.1 could also support FSR4 at launch.
AMD has an official list of 106 games that currently support or will soon support FSR3/3.1. Of these, 20 games do not yet support FSR3 but are expected to receive updates.
Kepler confirms that this easy FSR4 update would not be available to FSR3 games, the 3.1 update is required. The most likely reason FSR3.1 compatibility is required for the FSR4 upgrade is that it represents AMD’s first release where super resolution and frame generation are decoupled into separate libraries.
