Quote:Microsoft has recently confirmed a new Windows 10 issue affecting version 1903 (May 2019 Update) and introduced by cumulative update KB4497935.
The company says that after installing this cumulative update, the Remote Access Connection Manager service, also known as RASMAN, could stop working and return error 0xc0000005.
The bug only exists on version 1903 and occurs when users set up a VPN profile as an Always On VPN connection with or without device tunnel. If the VPN profile or connection is configured with the manual mode, the problem should not occur.
Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 Update) and older are not affected. Microsoft provides more details about this bug in Windows 10 version 1903:
“The Remote Access Connection Manager (RASMAN) service may stop working and you may receive the error “0xc0000005” when devices are manually configured to the non-default telemetry setting of 0. You may also receive an error in the Application section of Windows Logs in Event Viewer with Event ID 1000 referencing “svchost.exe_RasMan” and rasman.dll.”
A workaround does exist, and it comes down to configuring the default telemetry settings using the steps that Microsoft detailed here.
A patch is already in the works, Microsoft says, but details as to when it could be released aren’t yet available.
