Bells should be ringing from the get-go, especially since the developer is a third party clearly stating in the app's description that they are "not affiliated in any way, shape, or form with Google Inc or Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd."
Firmware updates are delivered free of charge from official sources, like the vendor or the manufacturer of the phone, to eliminate or reduce the possibility of tampering with the software. Checking for official updates can be done from Settings>About phone>Software/System/OS Update.
