Quote:Despite COVID-19 dominating the headlines, the problem of rapid global warming is still a lingering issue. Further boosting its eco-credentials, Samsung has today announced that its Lifestyle TV products, including The Frame, The Serif and The Sero, will come in corrugated cardboard packaging that will make it easier for customers to reuse and recycle the materials.
According to the Korean firm, the new packaging uses a dot matrix design on each side of the cardboard making it easy for customers to cut the boxes and use them for other purposes. Samsung suggests that users could turn the packaging into small end tables or houses for pets. To further inspire customers, Samsung will bundle a manual full of QR codes that link to instructions for building household items from the cardboard.
Commenting on the innovative reuse idea, Kangwook Chun, Executive Vice President and Head of Product Strategy Team of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said:
Quote:“Consumers are more likely to purchase from a brand that shares similar fundamentals and values as they do, and with our eco-packaging, we believe that we can provide our customers with a new experience that considers the environment as an important way to express themselves”To bring attention to the packaging, Samsung has partnered with the British lifestyle magazine Dezeen to launch a global design competition that begins today. The two companies will reward the most unique and practical designs and will include the designs into its eco-packaging manual.
