Microsoft has announced that the initial launch of Automatic Super Resolution will be limited only to certain systems.
Microsoft is working on enabling super resolution technology for games at the operating system level. A goal for this feature, which is already present in the preview builds, is to apply super resolution upscaling to certain applications through graphics options. The feature is placed in the graphics settings and can apply to specific applications, not necessarily only games.
Microsoft has now announced that Automatic Super Resolution will be integrated into Windows, and it will “automatically enhance the framerate of games in real-time,” clearly confirming that the focus for this technology is gaming.
The unfortunate news is that the Auto SR feature will be limited to Copilot+ PCs running Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite CPUs. Thus, at least officially, there will be no support for X86 CPUs or even Snapdragon X Plus processors (10-core). The limitation will also apply to what games can be used with this technology; a “curated set” is mentioned in the technology description.
