DisplayHDR True Black 1000 announced

VESA is announcing new certification specs for modern gaming monitors. 



VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) is adding two new standards to its extensive list of certifications for HDR and Clear Motion specifications. These new certifications will be part of next week’s monitor announcements.

VESA stated that it was necessary to include a new 1000-nit luminance performance tier in its DisplayHDR True Black specifications. This update is designed for new OLED displays capable of achieving higher peak luminance, now reaching up to 1000 nits in HDR mode. This rule expands VESA’s ability to certify “premium OLED HDR displays,” according to the press release.

The organization is also introducing a new Clear Motion certification, ClearMR 21000, aimed at high-speed gaming monitors. Testimonials from three companies confirm the upcoming introduction of such monitors.

Gigabyte has announced that their flagship gaming models for 2025 will adopt this standard. MSI has also confirmed that its new QD-OLED monitors, equipped with DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20), will be compatible with ClearMR 21000 certifications. Additionally, LG has stated that their LG UltraGear OLED 480Hz Gaming Monitor (27GX790A) is the first gaming monitor certified under this standard.

For the True Black 1000 certification, there is a testimonial from Samsung Display, which is working on certification for both the HDR and ClearMR standards.
