Emsisoft Anti-Malware awarded VB100 in December 2020 tests

The defining feature of any antivirus solution is how effectively it can detect and stop malware. In December 2020, Emsisoft took part in the VB100, a certification test conducted by independent testing group Virus Bulletin, which is designed to evaluate the detection capabilities of endpoint security software.

The results of the test have just been released and we’re proud to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has once again earned certification! Read on to learn more about the testing process and certification criteria.

The tests

The tests are performed on physical computers or virtual machines with similar specifications you would expect to find in a typical business environment. To conduct the tests, the security products are installed on a clean instance of Windows and configured with default installation settings. Each test is performed on two systems, one running Windows 7 Pro N 64-bit, the other running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

During the test, each product is exposed to thousands of malicious samples curated by various groups, including the WildList Organization, the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization and Virus Bulletin. To test a security solution’s ability to distinguish a malicious file from a safe file, each product is also exposed to a set of 100,000 clean files harvested from legitimate software downloads

To earn VB100 certification, a security product must meet the following criteria:

• Detect more than 99.95 percent of malicious samples.
  
• Produce no more than 0.05 percent false positives.
  

The results

We’re happy to announce that Emsisoft Anti-Malware aced the tests, detecting 100 percent of the 1,401 malicious samples while generating zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was yet again awarded the VB100!
