Microsoft is preparing to release the Windows 10 May 2021 Update
#1
Information
Quote:Microsoft has announced that the Windows May 10th 2021 Update (21H1) is complete and being prepared for release.

Brandon LeBlanc, Senior Program Manager for the Windows Insider program, states that Microsoft believes build 19043.928 is the final build for the May 2021 Update.

Windows Insiders in the 'Beta' and 'Release' channels have been testing this build since April 13th.

While Microsoft has not provided a specific date when the May 2021 Update would begin to rollout, it is likely to be released as an optional update during the upcoming May 2021 Patch Tuesday updates.

Like other new Windows 10 feature updates, the May 2021 Update will likely first be offered to 'seekers' who manually perform a 'Check for updates' in the Windows Update settings screen.

Over time, Windows 10 21H1 will slowly be offered to more people to increase testing and provide Microsoft with more diagnostics.

This rolled-out approach allows Microsoft to find and fix bugs before it affects many Windows 10 users.

For users who wish to test the May 2021 Update in a clean install of Windows 10, Microsoft has also released a Windows 10 19043.928 ISO.
Quote:Not a very exciting release

Sadly, Windows 10 21H1 is not a very exciting release, and the new features are geared chiefly towards business owners.

The feature coming with Windows 10 21H2 include:
  • Windows Hello multi-camera support to set the default as the external camera when both external and internal Windows Hello cameras are present.
  • Windows Defender Application Guard performance improvements, including optimizing document opening scenario times.
  • Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) Group Policy Service (GPSVC) updating performance improvement to support remote work scenarios.
  • Windows 10 News and Interests is bundled with this release, allowing users to access customized news feeds from the taskbar.
For those waiting for more exciting features that would appeal to both consumers and the enterprise, we will have to wait for the Windows 10 Sun Valley feature update coming this Fall.
