AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 launched on March 6, 2025, which makes today their first anniversary. On paper, the pair looked like a solid RDNA 4 start. The RX 9070 XT shipped with 64 Compute Units, up to 2970 MHz boost clock, 16GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus, and 304W TBP. The RX 9070 used 56 Compute Units, up to 2520 MHz boost clock, the same 16GB and 256-bit memory setup, and a lower 220W TBP. AMD set the price at $599 for the XT and $549 for the non-XT.
MSRP ‘encouragement’ strugglesThe problem is that the launch was not smooth from the start. AMD and its executives said MSRP pricing would continue to be ‘encouraged’, but that message did not translate into stable retail pricing. Street prices moved up almost immediately, and months later the cards were still difficult to find at AMD’s advertised levels. In the US, the RX 9070 XT only reached its official $599 MSRP around early November, about eight months after launch.
