The new capability is part of the social media giant's effort to help people set limitations around how they spend their time on the app while adjusting to the shelter-in-place program implemented to curb the spread of coronavirus. Facebook already has a feature to let you limit your time in its app, introduced in 2018 to allow people to view the total time they've spent on the service on a particular day in a week and then choose to set a daily limit. When they've reached that limit, the app will send them a reminder with an option to mute push notifications for a period of time, ranging from 15 minutes to eight hours.
Quiet Mode works in a bit different way. When you try to launch the Facebook app during the quiet time you specify, it will remind you that Quiet Mode is still on with a quick view of how much time is left before this mode expires. If you tap the option for managing Quiet Mode, it will provide you the option to either quit that mode or use Facebook for 15 minutes, during which time push notifications will still be muted (via VentureBeat).
The feature can be accessed through the same area where Facebook's existing time management tool resides. Simply head over to Settings and Privacy, tap "Your Time on Facebook", and choose "Manage Your Time". Quiet Mode is rolling out starting today.
