AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR3) to officially launch tomorrow

FSR3 launching September 29

AMD FSR3 is finally making its debut nearly 11 months after its initial announcement.



Tomorrow holds great significance for AMD Radeon users, particularly those with Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs. Back in November 2022, AMD unveiled FSR3 technology, along with HYPR-RX, as two of the standout features for the upcoming RDNA3 series. Little did anyone anticipate that these technologies would be released with such a delay.

While HYPR-RX made its debut with the September drivers, FSR3’s exact release date remained a mystery until now. Officially, FSR3 is set to make its first appearance in games starting tomorrow, as confirmed by a tweet from Frank Azor.

Although Frank didn’t specify the games launching with FSR3 tomorrow, AMD has confirmed that Forspoken and Immortals of Avenum will be among the first titles to feature this technology.

AMD FSR3 introduces Fluid Motion Frames, AMD’s answer to DLSS3 Frame Generation. This approach leverages Anti-Lag+ on RX 7000 series GPUs and promises up to a 3.4x increase in frame rates, assuming AMD’s provided figures hold true.

The company has also clarified that FSR3 with Fluid Motion Frames will be compatible with Radeon RX 5700/RTX 20 series and newer GPUs, while the FSR3 upscaling component without FMF will be available for RX 590/GTX 10 series GPUs (and newer).

Furthermore, AMD has plans to eventually make FSR3 technology open source, potentially paving the way for its adaptation and implementation on other GPU platforms down the line.
