In December, Intel officially announced its new Thunderbolt 5 controller, codenamed Barlow Bridge. This is a fifth generation of Thunderbolt specs (first introduced in 2011) and the successor to Thunderbolt 4 with important updates to this connectivity standard. The new standard arrived too late to be integrated into Meteor Lake Core Ultra 100 series laptops, but it is included in some high-end gaming laptops based on Raptor Lake-R-HX series (aka 14th Gen Core-HX).
The platform deployment of Thunderbolt 5 standard is not expected until the second half of this year, which is when one should expect an update for the Intel desktop series under the Arrow Lake CPU series. Over at X/Twitter, hardware leaker YuuKi-AnS shares new slides focusing on the Barlow Bridge controller for the Arrow Lake-S platform, confirming it will be included in some next-generation motherboards.
