AMD Ryzen 9000 inter-core latency significantly reduced with new AGESA 1202

Intercore latency Ryzen 9000 issue has been reportedly resolved with new AGESA

Latency has dropped from 180 ns to 75 ns.



One of the issues with the Ryzen 9000 series, as discovered by reviewers, was the relatively high latency between cores. Up until AGESA 1.2.0.1, the latency was measured at around 180 ns between cores, which was significantly higher than last-gen Ryzen CPUs.

Last week, ASUS rolled out the first firmware for its 600-series motherboards, including the latest AGESA 1.2.0.2. Thanks to enthusiasts who flashed this firmware, even though it’s not an official release, it’s now known that this firmware actually resolved the issue.

According to domdtxdissar, latency measurements using the CapFrameX core-to-core latency tool show that it has dropped to 75 ns:

This data was measured on the Ryzen 9 9950X and ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Gene motherboard. Results may vary for other Ryzen SKUs and motherboards. The data was also confirmed by HardwareLuxx who reported lowered core latencies from 200ns to 95ns. 

It’s also reported that performance in some synthetic benchmarks has improved, with an increase of roughly 400 to 600 points in the Cinebench R23 multi-core test. However, keep in mind that this is just about a 1% increase.
