Google's Web Guide will reorganize search results with AI

Google is testing something that could change how its search engine works. It has announced a new feature called Web Guide that will reorganize the search results using AI.

No, it's not going to reorder the results based on a page's ranking. Let's say you are searching for something on Google, but you don't find the specific information that you want. What do you do? You run another search with different keywords.

Web Guide uses a custom version of Gemini that is designed for analyzing search query and web content, and uses a query fan-out technique that identifies the most relevant results from multiple searches. AI Mode already does this, but Web Guide is specialized for this method, i.e. to retrieve data that may have been missed in a regular search.

When it finds the relevant pages, Web Guide groups the information into different sections on the page, based on their content. You can view a demo of it in action on Google's Blog.



Google highlighted that open-ended searches may be best suited for the feature. For example, “how to solo travel in Japan.” Users may also write detailed queries in multiple sentences, and the AI will understand the query, run the search, and reorganize the data in a structured format.
