Emsisoft earns VB100 in April 2020 tests

Every other month, independent certification body Virus Bulletin conducts the VB100 test, a certification test designed to evaluate the detection capabilities of endpoint security products. The results of the April 2020 tests are out and we’re happy to report that Emsisoft Anti-Malware has yet again earned the VB100!

How Virus Bulletin performs the tests

The tests are performed on physical computers or virtual machines with specifications similar to those you would find in a typical business setting. Each test is performed on two different systems, one running Windows 7 Pro N 64-bit, the other running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.

The security products are installed on a clean instance of Windows and configured with default settings. The products are then exposed to thousands of malware samples curated by various researchers and organizations, as well as a subset of 100,000 clean files taken from a set of 400,000 non-malicious files harvested from legitimate software downloads.

A security product must meet the following criteria to earn the VB100:

• Detect more than 99.95 percent of malicious samples.
  
• Produce no more than 0.05 percent false positives.
  

The resultsEmsisoft Anti-Malware performed well, detecting 100 percent of the 2,685 malicious samples while generating zero false positives. As a result, Emsisoft Anti-Malware was once again awarded the VB100!
