I never really used YouTube Vanced, so hearing that Vanced was being discontinued wasn't a big deal to me. I used NewPipe for the longest time, but have recently switched to LibreTube because it proxies all of the video requests through a Piped instance which is better for those trying to degoogle. Piped is what I use to watch YouTube on desktop browsers, so having Piped available in a native Android app is great. Whereas if you use NewPipe or YouTube Vanced, all video requests still go through YouTube.
