AMD has enabled the memory overclocking for Radeon RX 7900 GRE which results in higher performance.
AMD’s latest driver update has unlocked full overclocking support for the Radeon RX 7900 GRE “Golden Rabbit Edition,” a model previously confined mainly to the Chinese market before its global release. Reviews on the global launch day highlighted issues with overclocking, with performance gains falling short of expectations. AMD has since identified the problem, citing an incorrect memory tuning limit, and pledged to rectify it through a new driver.

The recently released AMD 24.3.1 WHQL driver fulfills this promise by resolving the memory overclocking issue on the RX 7900 GRE. This fix involves reprogramming overclocking limits within the card’s VBIOS, a simpler approach compared to issuing new firmware for all RX 7900 GRE models.
Moreover, the driver includes a clock limit override that adjusts the power limit during bootup. This adjustment has been confirmed by TechPowerUP through rigorous testing. With the updated driver, RX 7900 GRE models can now achieve memory speeds of up to 3000 MHz (24 Gbps), a significant increase from the previous limit of 2316 MHz. TechPowerUP’s testing revealed that their GDDR6 SKU reached speeds of 20 Gbps, resulting in a measured overclocking potential of 15%.
