Consumer Raphael chips will soon be available in a new variant. The data-center-oriented EPYC series is said to receive a new variant called 4004. The series will join an extended lineup of EPYC Zen4 CPUs, which now span across 5 segments and feature anything from 8 to 128 cores.

At this time, it is unclear if EPYC 4004 uses Zen4 or Zen4c cores. What is known, however, is that they use an AM5 socket, so the package should be more or less the same as existing consumer and business-oriented models.

AMD EPYC Zen4 Series
  • EPYC 97×4 (Cloud) 112-128 Zen4c cores
  • EPYC 94×4/95×4/96×4(P) (High-Performance Computing) 48-96 Zen4 cores
  • EPYC 9xx4F (Performance Enterprise ) 16-48 Zen4 cores
  • EPYC 91×4/92×4/93×4 (Mainstream Enterprise) 16-32 Zen4 cores
  • EPYC 8xx4 (Low Power & Edge) 8-64 Zen4c cores
  • ?EPYC 4xx4 (?) up to 16 Zen4 cores (?)
What’s interesting is that EPYC 4004 may be getting a version with 3D V-Cache. This technology is currently only available with Ryzen 7000X3D models and some EPYC Genoa 9000X models.

Finding a motherboard for EPYC 4004 shouldn’t be a problem, but the question remains whether it will actually be supported by any AM5 motherboard already on the market, or if there is a requirement for a new chipset.

It’s worth adding that AMD also has Ryzen 7000 Embedded series, which has special boards. These series are more or less the same as PRO variants but lack all the business and security-oriented features.
