What is the best way to download youtube music or movies?

How do you download music/audio(mp3) or movie(mp4) files from sites like Youtube.com, DailyMotion.com, Vimeo.com to your computer?

I have found several sites that will download them for you to your computer, but does anyone know other sites, free software, or a better way?
