Vivaldi Technologies released a new snapshot of the company's Vivaldi web browser; the company introduces options to customize menus of the browser in this version.

The Vivaldi web browser is certainly a contender for the most customizable browser out of the box. You can check out our full review of the web browser for an overview of major options and features.

Vivaldi Technologies releases browser snapshots and stable versions of Vivaldi regularly. Snapshots provide a glimpse of new features that will be introduced in the next stable version (usually); this time, Vivaldi's customization options have been extended further by allowing users to customize the menus of the browser.

Users of the classic Opera web browser may remember that it was one of the many features of that browser. Unfortunately, menu customizations are no longer part of the new Opera.

To get started customizing menus in Vivaldi, select Vivaldi Menu > Settings and switch to Appearance when the Settings window is open.

Scroll down to the Menu section; you should see the new Menu Customization options there. The browser selects the active menu automatically (Vivaldi Button

Menu or Vivaldi Horizontal Menu). Below that are the sections of the menu and all commands that are available.

Right-click on an entry to move or rename it, delete it entirely, or to create new folders or separators. Note that you can indeed remove entire menus from the Vivaldi browser. Keep in mind that you can open the Settings with the shortcut Ctrl-F12 to reset menus or modify the appearance.

Here are some of the options that you have:
  • Remove menu commands that you never use.
  • Remove entire menus.
  • Remove or add separators.
  • Create new folders.
  • Add new commands to the menus (many are not available in the default menus).
Closing Words

I like customization options in a web browser. Vivaldi Technologies goes against the trend of reducing customization options in browsers. While there is some danger to that, as users might remove menus or commands that they need, it does provide users with great options to customize the menus to their liking.

The two main applications for that are the removal of menu items that are not needed and the adding of new commands or the creation of new folders with commands in my opinion.

Now You: Would you customize the browser menu if your browser supported the functionality?
