We may still be 10 days away from the launch of the new Ryzen 9000X3D series, but this doesn’t mean motherboard vendors are expected to wait. Perhaps as a gesture toward reviewers who will soon be testing the new CPUs, AMD, along with motherboard manufacturers, has now released new BIOS updates featuring the updated AGESA firmware.

The AGESA 1.2.0.2A is a new version compared to the September 1.2.0.2 release, which was the final and stable firmware for the AMD X870 series. It appears the “A” version focuses specifically on the X3D series and is expected to bring some interesting new features.

Gigabyte surprised everyone with their bold performance claims for the new “X3D Turbo Mode.” However, this isn’t an exclusive feature of Gigabyte—it’s also now part of ASUS’s BIOS update, as shown above. This mode reportedly disables SMT (AMD’s hyper-threading) and introduces latency and CCD optimizations (details on which haven’t been disclosed yet).

For dual-CCD CPUs, Turbo Mode may also lock the operation to a single CCD, similar to the functionality in the 7000X3D series. There are also reports of performance gains on the 9700X (a single-CCD CPU without 3D V-Cache), which is showing promising improvements of 4.8% in Forza Horizon 5:

If you happen to have one of these new boards, give this a try, or wait for the official stable release, which is by all means should always be recommended.
