AMD’s AM4 socket was officially introduced for OEMs and system integrators in September 2016, alongside the Bristol Ridge APU. Few could have predicted that the socket would last this long and become one of the most important shifts in desktop CPUs.
Today, AMD has over 24 CPUs in the AM4 lineup from the Ryzen 5000 series alone. This was the final series for AM4, with the 6000 series limited to mobile and the 7000 series already moved to AM5. Therefore, anything AMD launches now—or delayed launches from earlier—falls under the 5000 series.
