Duplicate file finder
#1
Anyone know any reputable duplicate file finders? I accidentally re-download too many files with (1), (2), etc. next to the file name. Trying to get rid of all duplicates on my main SSD and external HDDs.

The software should preferably match files through SHA256 in case I have edited one version but not the other.

Awesome, thanks. I've installed it and I'm trying "Exact Match (Slow)" mode, but I don't see a lot of details about how the search indexing work. Does it actually look at the file's metadata and SHA256?

You are correct, there is no clear indication as to how the software works but WiseCleaner is a reputable company.  An alternative would be for you check out Duplicate File Finder Plus  which is excellent, I have used it in the past with success.  It conducts searches based on contents and not on the name of the file.

Thanks again, this one looks more promising but still doesn't provide enough information about how the searching works (my files are sensitive, so I can't afford to lose any). I looked at a few other software that claim to scan through MD5 and SHA256, but aren't recognized by Windows SmartScreen so I'm avoiding those.

Currently looking at some Python-coded alternatives to run through WSL Bash.
