Today, Huawei announced the MateBook 13 AMD Edition, a version of its mainstream laptop that competes with Apple's MacBook Air. Naturally, it usually has Intel processors, and this one comes with AMD Ryzen. Strangely enough though, it comes with an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U, a last-gen 12nm product that predates the newer 7nm Ryzen 4000 series.
Other than that, the laptop is mostly the same as the one we reviewed last year, and that's not a bad thing. It still packs a 13-inch 2160x1440 3:2 display, a big Microsoft Precision trackpad, and the Fingerprint Power Button.
One other thing that wasn't around a year ago is new Huawei Share features. You can tap your Huawei phone against the keyboard to share images, videos, and other files. And if you've got EMUI 10.1 on your phone, you can use the new Multi-screen Collaboration feature, which lets the phone and the PC work seamlessly together.
The bad news is that the AMD Ryzen 3000 series hasn't been met with very positive reviews, unlike the Ryzen 4000 series. When we reviewed the 15-inch Surface Laptop 3, the conclusion was that you'd be better off with the Intel Ice Lake model.
The Huawei MateBook 13 AMD Edition is available today from the Huawei Store starting at £699 for 8GB RAm and 256GB of storage and £749 for 8GB RAM and 512GB storage.
