A new version of Opera Software's experimental Opera GX web browser for gamers was released today. The new version includes Discord support and a new feature that Opera Software calls hot-tabs killer.

The company calls Opera GX the "world's first gaming browser". Its futuristic theme that looks more like what you would find in a computer game than in a browser app and extra features such as integration of Twitch, gaming news right on the startpage, or controls to limit CPU, RAM or network usage set it apart from regular browsers.

The new version of Opera GX is already available. Opera Software integrated new gaming related features in the web browser. The first introduces built-in support for the popular communication platform Discord.

Discord is not shown by default when you launch the latest version of Opera GX. A click on the menu icon in the lower left corner of the browser window and the selection of Discord adds it to the browser's sidebar.

Tip: you may also add other services and platforms such as Whatsapp, Telegram, VK, or Facebook Messenger.

Click on the Discord icon to get started. All you need to do then is sign-in to the service if you have an account or register a new account; you may also open channels directly to join without account. The icon acts as a quick link to Discord.

The second feature, Hot tabs killer, complements the browser's resource limiter. A click on the GX Control Panel of the sidebar opens the main interface. There you may click on the Start button at the top to see which sites and services use the most CPU or RAM.

Hover over any tab to get the option to close the tab right then and there. The resource usage is updated automatically once you have hit the Start button.

The third feature that is new in the latest Opera GX version brings an option to force dark mode on any website that you encounter in the browser.

Quote:The feature injects its own changes to a site’s styles to turn bright backgrounds dark, making sure that users aren’t blinded by web pages.

The option needs to be enabled explicitly in the settings under GX. Just toggle "force dark mode" there to turn any webpage you encounter into a darker variant automatically.

Now You: What is your take on these new features? Do you think a gaming-focused browser is necessary?
