Microsoft announces a whole bunch of new features coming to OneDrive
#1
Information
Quote:Today, Microsoft published a blog post detailing a ton of new features that are coming to its OneDrive cloud storage service. It's broken up into four sections: more connected, more flexible, more control, and more personal.

First up in the more connected department is better Teams integration. Now when you go to share a file from Teams, you can create OneDrive sharable links. Coming within the next few weeks is support for read and write metadata sync for shared libraries. Both of these seem to only be for business users.

In the more flexible department, the maximum file size is being increased from 15GB to 100GB, making it easier to share 3D, CAD, and media files. Since it supports differential sync, it should be easy to update these files as well. Another new feature is the ability to turn off notifications for comments on specific files, since notifications are distracting. And finally, business users will be able to share file URLs from the address bar, and they'll follow all sharing policies.

The next series of features is all about more control over your files. You'll be able to sync admin reports, although that feature isn't arriving until later this year. There are new file protection features, such as the ability for admins to set automatic expiration of external access, MFA policies, one-time passcodes, and more.

Finally, the more personal section seems to be more aimed at consumers. There's a new family and group sharing feature that lets you predefine groups of people, rather than typing each individual person when you want to share. For example, you could make a group called 'family', and then you'll be able to share folders easily with that entire group. there's also an activity feed and file detail pane that let you see file activity while collaborating.

And finally, dark mode is coming to OneDrive on the web. Most of these features are rolling out now, with the exception of the few that are coming later.
