NVIDIA launches RTX Video Super Resolution technology

NVIDIA RTX Video Super Resolution is now available

With the release of the new graphics driver, NVIDIA has enabled support for its super resolution tech for videos. 



Owners of GeForce RTX 40 and RTX 30 GPUs can now enjoy video content at higher image quality. This is possible thanks to NVIDIA’s new technology that was announced in last month, the RTX Video Super Resolution.

The RVSR was supposed to come out in February, and that promise is indeed fulfilled today. On the last day of this month, NVIDIA has finally released a driver that enables this technology in supported browsers, such as Chrome or Edge (it was not tested with other Chromium browsers). This technology will work for online content such as YouTube, Twitch, Netflix, or Hulu. It will upscale the resolution even on 5K screens.

According to NVIDIA, video upscaling will work only if it is manually enabled through the control panel. Users will find this option in Video > Adjust video image settings > RTX video enhancement. There one can find four quality settings (1-4). The 4 level is the highest and requires more GPU resources, the description explains.


 
NVIDIA recommends quality mode 1 for all RTX 30/40 GPUs, but higher end GPUs such as XX70 class and above will be able to play content at level 4.

NVIDIA promised it will support RTX 20 series as well, but this is not something to expect any time soon. The company says that the algorithm has to be ‘re-factored’ for the RTX 20 series and that will take time.
