Ashampoo UnInstaller 14: Remove software down to the last byte!

Ashampoo GmbH & Co. KG has released Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 last 24th of October 2023 (updated 6th of November) and is a successfull followup to the last version (Ashampoo® UnInstaller 12).

Like it's predecessor, Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 removes whatever junk is left behind by the standard program uinstaller of the user's application and offers more tools!

Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 deletes programs without leftovers and allows the user to install, test and remove software without worries. Five deletion methods ensure a more thorough removal than is possible with Windows' default means. The installation monitoring technology (Installation Guard) built into UnInstaller logs all file and system modifications and completely reverses them during software removal. Even embedded setups are fully logged and removable. The program auto-detects installations from beginning to end so users don't have to take manual action. Installations that weren't logged by UnInstaller 14 are still fully removable thanks to the built-in database with hundreds of software profiles and UnInstaller's own Deep Cleaning technology which now includes 'Registry' cleaning, detects and eliminates even the most hidden or obscure orphaned entries.

Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 features snapshot technology (Snapshots) offering different system state comparison and instantly spot modifications. Batch or drag & drop removal of software (Drag & Drop UnInstall) is also possible. The new version 14 can move installed applications to new locations e.g., to free up disk space. All 'associated  files' (of the moved program) will be moved to the new location and a corresponding shortcut will be created in the original folder.

To help users keep better track of their installed applications, and to make migration to new systems easier, UnInstaller 14 can 'export' and 'import' a list of installed applications. Reports have been redesigned and now also cover 'Windows apps'. 'Drive Cleaner' has been augmented with custom file filters and the ability to auto-delete empty folders as with existing cleaners which have been fully updated to work with the latest Windows 11 and browser updates.

UnInstaller 14 now knows and recognizes the behavior of common installers and adapts accordingly. Similar to heuristics in anti-virus solutions, UnInstaller uses background knowledge to monitor and log setups. Log files are now safer, more detailed, and even distinguish. between program installations and updates. This new technology allows Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 to better identify leftover files and undo even the most complex or exotic of setups!

FIVE UNINSTALL METHODS

  • Original Uninstall

  • Protocol created by Uninstaller when installing the program

  • Internal Database profiles we have for special cases

  • In-depth cleaning

  • Enhanced registry trace detection (optional)

At first Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14, will use the regular Windows Uninstall information to uninstall the program.  After that the program compares (if available) the logged application protocol the program creates when installing software. The third check is an internal database. There are some special cases of known installation programs, which Ashampoo stores in a special internal database so that uninstallation can be carried out cleanly. However, this database cannot be viewed directly and is maintained by us through program updates.

After that the program performs an in-depth cleaning. Here UnInstaller checks the known locations where installation programs can usually store data. If data / folders can be assigned to the installation, it is deleted.

Number 5 is a new addition, in-depth Registry cleaning with extended scan for orphaned entries.  Under certain circumstances, it significantly extends the scan for leftovers. Ashampoo leaves it to the user to decide whether they want to activate this function or not.

The navigation panel shows 9 categories namely:

  • 1. Overview
    2. Applications
    3. Install
    4. Hibernation
    5. Windows Apps

All the more important here is the "Quick features", where you will see the current status of installed programs, plugins etc., and the "History" where the "most recently installed programs" are listed including uninstall buttons for the user to access it immediately. Installation of new apps can be monitored by Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 via "Installation Guard" (toggle to "ON" to activate monitoring).

2. Applications
The "Applications" provides the list of all applications currently installed on the user’s PC. Use the subtopics to alter the last, (by size). User just needs to "click" (to select) an entry to uninstall the selected program or to uninstall several applications, use the check boxes to select them towards uninstall process. To aid in searching items the user can use the drop-down "Filter" menu (located at the top portion of the interface) to aid the user making it easier to search specific items. The "Filter" menu provides to hide common frameworks, redistributables and the like. UnInstaller 14 comes with a handy "Categories" view that lists all of installed software by category. The program recognizes all installed software applications automatically and sorts them into their respective categories.

Ashampoo® UnInstaller can perform additional in-depth cleaning to remove leftovers created by an application during use. This feature is enabled by default. UnInstaller detects when the uninstallation process is complete. In cases of uninstallation non-detection, user may manually notify the program using the corresponding button.

To check the list of uninstalled application, user can go to (left navigation bar) "Applications > Uninstalled". The uninstalled applications list's all recently uninstalled applications and allows the user to either delete the uninstall log or perform additional in-depth cleaning (in case the user has disabled this feature during the uninstallation).

Users can also "drag & drop" desktop application icons to let Ashampoo® UnInstaller 14 "uninstall" selected application.

3. Install
Application installation is "usually" monitored by Ashampoo® UnInstaller but in case auto-detection fails, the install "trigger “springs into action when an ".exe" (installation file) is dragged into the install area. Or, (if user wants) he may click "Browse" to select the install file manually.

The latest UnInstaller 14's "Installation guard" detects different installer types and uses per-type optimization to track even the most minute modifications to your system. In version 14, the "Installation guard" algorithm has been improved for better stability and detection! In most cases, logging will also start and stop automatically so the user can just sit back and watch! In addition, the program can tell fresh installations from updates to avoid erroneous logging! This significantly improves UnInstaller's logging capabilities and gives the user a clearer picture of what happens during program installations!

If monitoring is enabled ("ON"), user can also right-click the corresponding icon in the Windows notification area to access the context menu and use to manually trigger new installations. Alternatively, the user can also left-click the icon.  During installations, a "notification" at the top of your screen can be seen signifying that the installation is being monitored/logged. User can manually stop the logging process by clicking "Installation completed". A list of all "Logged/monitored" installations can be seen in Applications > Logged. The 'Overview' also displays the 'Most Recently Logged' installation and is likewise shown in the 'Quick Feature Access'.

Notes:

Ashampoo UnInstaller 14's performance as an uninstaller is outstanding and true to its promise remains one of the best utilities for a Windows user. Like it's predecessor, UnInstaller 14 uninstalls/removes programs completely alongside having logs that the user can see/check from time to time. The 'Move programs' feature is a very welcom addition as it makes it easier for the user to relocate applications with only a click of a button. The 'Revert location' is also good to offer the user to 'revert' the move action when he finds the need for it.

Among the exceptional features are the (1) Real-time monitoring, (2) Installation guard, (3) Deep Cleaning technology, and (4) Undeleter (very useful when recovering previously deleted files). The only issue with Ashampoo UnInstaller 14 is its price tag (same as it's predecessor also!). UnInstaller 14 is priced at $40 (the same as UnInstaller 12!) but in comparison with other popular uninstaller/utilities it is still expensive. Revo Uninstaller Pro is at $25 (with a time limited upfrade subscription See HERE), CCleaner Pro -at $29.95 (See HERE), IObit UnInstaller PRO at $19 / 1-year, 1 PC plan (See HERE) to name a few. All mentioned applications  are fully equipped to rival Ashampoo UnInstaller 14 anytime.
