AMD EPYC Genoa, Genoa-X, Bergamo, and Sienna all share a common feature: they are powered by AMD Zen4 architecture and are strategically tailored to cater to the high-core count market segment within data centers, cloud computing, and the edge computing sector. The latter is getting more attention from AMD with the launch of EPYC 8004 CPU series codenamed Sienna.

AMD EPYC with Zen4 CPUs

These new CPUs feature the Zen4c microarchitecture and are packaged to support the new SP6 socket. In contrast to the primary EPYC Zen4 CPUs like “Genoa,” which prioritize performance, cache size, and memory-intensive applications, Sienna processors are specifically engineered to optimize Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) metrics, focusing on Performance per Watt per Dollar. AMD positions them as ideal solutions for energy-efficient cloud services, intelligent edge computing, and telecom deployments.

AMD EPYC 9004 vs 8004

The AMD EPYC 8004 series encompasses a range of Zen4 cores, including 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, and 64. Their design accommodates varying Thermal Design Power (TDP) levels, spanning from 80W to 200W (default TDP), with some models configurable to reach up to 225W (configurable TDP). These CPUs also boast support for up to 6-channel DDR5-4800 memory, offering a capacity of up to 1.152TB. Furthermore, they provide connectivity with up to 96 PCIe Gen5 lanes and up to 48 CXL 1.1+ lanes.

AMD EPYC 8004 specs

The flagship EPYC 8004 SKU known as 8534P features 64 cores, 3.1 GHz boost and TDP of 220W. Ti is designed to operate within 0 to 75 degrees. AMD is also launching an 8-core EPYC 8024 which is to boost up to 3.0 GHz and operate with a default TDP of 90W. There are the two SKUs out of 12 that are planned, including P and PN variants (“P” – 1 processor systems and “N”: NEBS/Network Equipment Building System friendly).

Additionally, AMD is unveiling three partner systems based on the EPYC 8004 series: the Dell PowerEdge C6615, Lenovo ThinkEdge Se455, and SuperMicro WIO system.
