Ashampoo Office 9 is one of the best alternative Microsoft Office that you can get for a cheaper price. Office 9 apps are decent enough to perform 80% of the normal to advanced features of Microsoft's Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Personally it is getting better. The sampling I did was faster than SoftMaker Office 2021 Standard and the user interface is better. Ashampoo (and SoftMaker) needs to ramp up development of their office apps as Microsoft's is greatly improved through the years in functionality plus (I think) almost all schools/universities (educational systems around the globe) train and educate their students to use Microsoft Office. It is only but natural that those who graduate and move-on to the corporate world seek and use (and still continue to use) Microsoft Office. That is the reality of it. The competition is far and beyond until Ashampoo (and SoftMaker) ramps up development. There are some institutions that have started though but it is, at best lower than 20% of the corporate world, and that percentage may fall depending on the preference of a location. 

Usage is good and it is indeed gets you the feel that you are using Microsoft Office in Write and Calculate but not in Present. I think Ashampoo Present needs to have increased development. Another competition, WPS Office, has lots of freebies like templates, guides, etc in their website and this is designed to like the product. I think, and in my opinion, Ashampoo (and SoftMaker) should go that way starting with free templates for Calculate and Present. I mean make tons of 'great" templates and offer them free on their site! After that get into the nitty-gritty process of making help or sample videos, say, in 'Calculate', (1) how to make a chart and go beyond showing just the mere basics but show how complex charts are made, (2) how to perform calculations properly showing data sheets that are useful and relate to everyday work. I mean videos that truly teach the user how to use it. Users will only have time to look the other way when they see those instructional videos that are, say, like the ones they do at their work or school. Same goes with Ashampoo Present. Give the users 'free' tons of great templates and show him how to use it, preferably the usage in realworld NOT samples. I mean 'create' a great presentation template and then show how it is used. Those instructional videos will go a long way for any user because admittedly even Ashampoo (and SoftMaker) relies on the user's skill in Microsoft Office to market their product. I personally think that they assume the user knows 'this-that' etc. But what happens if they do not know the next step? The manuals that Ashampoo Office uses is (as Ashampoo Office is) patterned after SoftMaker Office and they do not contain much and with the absence of instructional videos, what now? Chances are the user will go to a site catering to Microsoft Excel / Powerpoint for answers and tips. Later on they will realize using Ashampoo Office (or SoftMaker Office) creates to much of a hassle then the switch comes after that. Get what I mean...


What I dislike in Microsoft Office for me is now you have always ned to be to be connected or logged in to Microsoft (365) to use. For country with poor internet connection, I would prefer a standalone app that need not to be connected but can constantly be updated. Plus, as we all know, Microsoft, always "calls home", connecting to cloud and there lies the rub of.."what's Microsoft now spying on my system..." -- something like that. This behavior (unneeded) cause slowdown in the internet connection. In my tinkering of Ashampoo Office 9, I came to see that all 3 applications do not even have a decent "color picker"! Yes, NONE. I had to go around and get the actual color code from Photoshop to use the color I'd like (or a freeware color identifier app that shows the code like -- Portable Just Color Picker). If you don't use 3rd party or a workaround, you are stuck with what Office offers and that's that. And what's the score with collaboration, team interactions and activities? There are also small issues and glitches that eventually convince you to, instead, purchase Office 365 subscription. Plus, Microsoft knows to keep their subscription price reasonable and that is also an enticement for budget conscious individuals. 

See, Ashampoo Office needs more development because for the norm is and will still be Microsoft Office. It is the standard and no way around it. There may be but it would take a long arduous way to make it work especially if the other teams use different apps other than Ashampoo (or SoftMaker). 

For normal to intermediate usage (school / office), Ashampoo Office is good enough and can suffice (depending on the preference, usage and demand of the work / user). Continuous development is key here to stay at par with the competition.
