As we approach the launch of the Ryzen 9000 series, information on Zen5 desktop CPUs becomes increasingly detailed. According to the report, the upcoming generation of the X3D series, known as Ryzen 9000X3D, will support overclocking—an interesting change to one of AMD’s most successful series.

The two previous generations of X3D, featuring Zen3 and Zen4 architecture, did not support full overclocking. While there were optimization methods and the ability to choose overclocked memory, there was no easy way to increase clocks or multipliers like on normal CPUs. AMD has always stated that overclocking may lead to instability, and the only way to optimize performance is by using technologies like Precision Boost Overdrive, which was enabled on the 7000X3D series.

The next generation will overcome these limitations and is said to support ‘full overclocking.’ This means access to CPU voltage or clock changes, which were not manually adjustable even on the Zen4 series.

Quote:With the next generation, AMD has teased some cool new features for the Zen 5-powered Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs but we have managed to learn that among those features is full support for OC. Yes, that’s right, it’s not just PBO or CO tuning, enthusiasts on the AM5 platform will get full overclocking support with the next-gen 3D V-Cache CPUs.

It is mentioned, though, that although supported, AMD may introduce safeguards to limit overclocking to safer values. The byproduct of using 3D V-Cache is greater susceptibility to voltage changes.
