Quote:Apple is projected to take the wraps off new iPhones as soon as this September, but it’s the 2020 generation the one that’s getting most of the attention.
Judging from all the reports that made the rounds lately, the 2020 iPhone lineup will come with major upgrades, like the full switch to OLED and 5G support.
And now, top Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says the 2020 model will also integrate time-of-flight sensors, substantially refining the performance of the rear cameras, while opening the doors to major new capabilities.
First of all, a time-of-flight sensor, or ToF, will allow for Apple to continue its push for augmented reality, while at the same time powering higher-fidelity 3D photos. This is a direction that the Cupertino-based tech giant has been exploring lately, and with the 2020 iPhone, it’ll finally make a major step in this regard.
As per 9to5mac citing an earlier forecast of the same analyst, the ToF sensors could make their way to the iPad lineup as well, possibly in early 2020. The 2020 iPhone generation is due in September next year, according to Apple’s typical iPhone release schedule.
