Quote:Microsoft has updated the Dev channel of the new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser with new features, including warnings for the modifications that extensions might try to do in the app.
First and foremost, Microsoft Edge Dev version 79.0.294.1 comes with new warnings displayed when users install a new extension with capabilities to change the search provider, home page, or the new tab page settings.
While installing extensions from trusted sources should theoretically keep you protected, this new feature comes in handy also in the case of browser add-ons that don’t necessarily make it clear enough that they could be making changes to your settings. So if you don’t want to allow them to do that, the warning makes it possible to block any potential modifications before they occur.
Additionally, Microsoft Edge also comes with improved messaging and reporting when loading unsafe websites, so technically, when loading a page that could pose a risk to your device, it should be easier to know what to do. And last but not least, this update introduces a new button to set up syncing from the profile flyout in the main screen of the browser.
