TEST : Simple RAW Screen Recording Comparison

Note:
I replaced the video comparisons due to conflict with the YouTube Channel owner because of apparent copyright etc.. Contesting the 'flag' will take time thus the replacement. Sorry for the inconvenience. I have thus amended the results here with the exeception of the "EDITING FUNCTIONS TESTED WITH EASEUS RECEXPERTS". The data shown there is still relevant and will give a preview on how EaseUS RecExperts does the limited editing. The new EaseUS RecExperts screen recording is below --"RecExperts Actual Recording" (vimeo video link is there).


Methodology:
 

• 1. Identify online video from YouTube (Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power - Official Trailer. Prime Video YouTube Channel) for testing. RAW screen recording of about 2:39 minutes of video. All recording will be at 30 fps, saved in .mp4 format. 
  
  2. Subject all alternatives to RAW screen recording of said video. Save video and compare with EaseUS RecExperts screen recording. 
  
  3. All recording will be collected and merged into 2 videos: (1) Compare_Screen Recording Apps_1, and (2) Compare_Screen Recording Apps_2. Results will be posted in a social media site. The actual screen recording results will be the ones to be merged into the 2 videos. 
  
  4. Compare recording sizes. 
  
  5. Compare any observations as alternatives are used versus EaseUS RecExperts. 
  

 

COMPARISON / OBSERVATIONS

All recording settings are the same for all apps used. All 30FPS recording, sound recorded is from desktop and 1080p resolution.

Bandicam 2024
Crisp sound and vivid color. Free version can suffice for a 10minute recording. No issues while recording said video. Can record anything in the screen including 'streaming'. Application does not include a video editor. Need to get 'Bandicut" free limited editor from Bandicam or use user preferred editor. New size comparison is at 37350 KB. 


iTop Screen Recorder 5.1.02520
No issues while recording said video. Can record anything in the screen including 'streaming'. Links (other than the screen recording) asks you to connect to the internet to download additional features, even screenshot, video editor. Crisp sound and vivid color. App constantly wants to connect to home site for upgrade and download of other iTop applications. Home site / upgrade site flagged as 'dangerous site' by Surfshark AV. New size comparison is the second largest at 80332 KB. 


ZD Soft Screen Recorder 12.0.1
Interface is awkward and somehow interferes with recording. Can record anything in the screen including 'streaming'.  Interface outdated / big. Floating pop-up is small. Sound volume decreased on actual recording even with the same settings used with all 5 alternatives. Color is crisp and vivid. New size comparison is at 34321 KB. 


CyberLink Screen Recorder 15
Crisp sound and vivid color. Recorded video has stutter. Can record anything in the screen including 'streaming'. Paid app with premium video editor included in PowerDirector 15 Suite. Good minimal interface. New size comparison is the largest at 153710 KB.


LUXEA Pro 7 Video Recorder
Excellent sound and vivid color. No issues while recording said video. Can record anything in the screen including 'streaming'. Paid app with premium video editor included in LUXEA Pro 7 Video Editor. Great interface and features. New size comparison is the smallest at 25961 KB.


EaseUS RecExperts
Crisp sound but recording color isn't as vivid. A bit washed up not as sharp in comparison with the other recorded results. No issues while recording said video. Equipped with built-in editor but very limited. Advanced edit links to the download of EaseUS Video Editor (paid app). Annoying survey pop-up everytime you exit. Good (though) limited editing features. New size comparison is the ssecond smallest at 31183 KB.

  OBSERVATIONS while using EaseUS RecExperts
   
  • Good screen recording tool
    
    EaseUS RecExperts is a very good screen recording tool. It recorded everything I threw at it especially online videos and tutorials. Size is at par with the alternatives used. That said I have observed some minor issues' Read on below. 
    
    
    
  • Record > Specify Windows issue
    
    When you capture just a 'specified window' EaseUS RecExperts seems a hit and miss as it can correctly identify other windows but in PotPlayer window the dimensions seems to be off. See image below. 
     
    
    
    
    The 'off' window selection cannot be adjusted also. So the workaround is to use Record>Region instead. 
     
    
    
  • Limited Screenshot tool
    
    Screenshot is ONLY wholescreen or just the section where all recorded videos are ('Recordings Window -- just the preview window). Even the built-in Windows 'Snipping Tool' has more capabilities offered. 
    
    
    
  • Includes FREE but limited editing capabilities.
    
    Though other paid screen recording tools seldom offer editing features, EaseUS RecExperts do offer it BUT is very limited only to: Trim, Compress (recorded video), Convert to constant frame rate, Extract Audio, Add 'Opening Title/Closing Credits. 
    
    
    
  • AI Assistant
    
    The AI Assistant is a tool that converts the recording audio to text, audio-to-text. Trying it took more than 2 hours for the 1:17 minute recording so I abandoned it altogether. Tried it a couple of times again to no avail. 
    
    
    
  • Odd Annotation tool function
    
    The 'annotation tool' can ONLY be used while you are recording a video. YOU CANNOT use it and IS NOT available after you record a video. Perhaps the developers were thinking that while you record a video stream online you can add some text etc for some purpose I could not understand. I always annotate a video after it is recorded NOT while recording. 
    
    
    
  • Repetitive activations / Annoying survey pop-up everytime you exit.
    
    In ver4.0, the app returns to "trial" after every exit. It constantly asks to activate product. But it remembers your license! That was odd! Tech support upgraded the build to v4.0.1 corrects this but the 'survey pop-up' is still there.

  FINAL WORD
  
  
  EaseUS RecExperts Pro (not the free version) is a great screen recording tool that you can use in all screen recordings to desire. With the exception of the poor screenshot tool --limited and not a good addition at all (as mentioned the built-in 'Snipping Tool' is better). In my opinion they should add their 'free' screenshot tool -- EaseUS ScreenShot in RecExperts, after all they are marketing it as a free tool. It must be noted that RecExperts is JUST a screen recording application, PERIOD. It IS NOT a video editor (though it offers limited editing features). 
  
  The alternatives used above show RecExperts capability to match or exceed their functions/features/output size. There are plenty of freeware versions out there like Luxea Free Video Editor which carries a screen recorder app IF you can register an account that it. I tried to register a free account and it has been 1 week of no reply from acdsee.com.  OBS Studio though I am not keen on it's ease-of-usage. It took me awhile to understand it properly. Debut Video Capture and Screen Recorder Software has a free version HERE though it will not capture on Mac. Even ShareX can capture videos and it's free though it is not suitable for games. 
  
  All-in-all, EaseUS RecExperts as a screen recording app is a great addition to any user as it is simple to use and adds some limited editing features to it.
